Free PDF Tools Online
Merge, Compress, Convert & Edit PDFs
Free PDF tools for merging, splitting, compressing and converting files. Compression, Office conversion and advanced OCR upload the file to a processing service, and every tool page says which it is.
Animated illustration: two PDF pages merge into one document, the document is compressed from 8.4 MB to 1.2 MB, scanned by OCR to recognize its text, then signed — all inside a browser window, showing that files never leave your device.

Under the hood
Which Tools Upload Your File, and Which Don't
Most tools run entirely in your browser. The few that need a server say so on their page.
Open-source engines
Merging, splitting and rotating use pdf-lib, page previews use pdf.js, password protection runs qpdf compiled to WebAssembly, and text extraction uses tesseract.js. All of them run in your browser.
The four tools that upload
Compress PDF, PDF to Word, Office to PDF and searchable-PDF OCR send the file over an encrypted HTTPS connection to a processing service and return the result. Every other tool keeps it on your device.
PDF to Word, Excel & PowerPoint
Tables, columns and paragraphs are rebuilt as editable content instead of being dumped as plain text. Complex layouts can still need touch-ups, and the file is uploaded to be converted.
Results built in your browser
In-browser PDF and image tools build the finished file in memory and hand it to you as a direct download, with no upload step. Open DevTools and the Network tab shows no request carrying your file.
Markdown to PDF
Paste Markdown, including ChatGPT or Claude output, pick a template, and export a formatted PDF. It is laid out in your browser with @react-pdf/renderer and calls no AI model.
Free, Basic and Pro
13 tools are free. Basic ($4.99/mo) and Pro ($9.99/mo) unlock the rest, and a free account gets one Basic-tier use a month to try them.
